Here's what's new at Covenant this month:

  • Product: We are making everything easier to use. Simplified pricing, full service bundles, and easy to understand platform features.
  • In the market: September means deal flow is back. Transaction volumes are climbing, and we're seeing it firsthand in review volume and new client engagements.
  • Out and about: Conference season is in full swing. We were at the NIO conference in Boston and the AI Native Law Firm conference in New York. Next up is ILPA's Legal Conference!

We love to hear from our clients. Please email us (jen@covenant.co) with any feedback, especially where we can improve.

— Jen Berrent and Richard Perris, Covenant Co-Founders

Client Story

How Trinity University built a co-investment program that competes at any scale — Trinity, a $2.4B endowment, now spends roughly 60% less on LPA review with turnaround down to two to four days, and closed a healthcare co-investment with a 24-hour legal turnaround on a week-and-a-half window.

"It is a law firm with an AI-forward process, not a software business selling legal services."
- Craig Crow, CIO, Trinity University

On The Deal

A profile series on the attorneys building Covenant: career paths that span Kirkland & Ellis, BlackRock, CVC Capital Partners, and private practice across the US and Europe, and what each of them has learned about where private markets legal work is headed now that AI is in the room.

This month: Every Side of the Table, featuring Andrew Keller, Senior Counsel

"Say the LP won a creative solution on a particular point three years ago. Today nobody remembers it. The PM moved on, the lawyer who negotiated it isn't on this deal. That win is invisible exactly when it would be useful."

Events

Upcoming: Richard will be speaking at the ILPA Legal Conference (October 8–9, New York) on "The Cost of Private Equity: A Candid Discussion on Fees, Expenses & Value," alongside speakers from Future Fund and Treo, moderated by ILPA. Several members of the Covenant team will also be there throughout the conference.

Key Product Updates

Easy to use reports: Investment reviews now export straight into a clean Word document, formatted the way lawyers actually work: a simple table you can cut, paste, and mark up without reformatting. Get the full depth and speed of AI-powered review, then drop it right back into the Word workflow your team already runs on.

Statistical analysis with every review: Included in every review is an automatic check against your portfolio. Is this term normal or is it an outlier? This deep insight into your own portfolio goes hand-in-hand with our issue-spotting capability. AI flags issues based on context and, if you want, a lawyer can curate that issues list using their seasoned judgment.

Work with documents, if that is how you work: The underlying investment document now sits in a panel beside your terms. You can expand and collapse as your focus changes. Our lawyer clients have been requesting this for years.
